Sandro Boy’s dam Wiadora was a full sister of the stallion Grannius (advanced showjumper) and the approved stallions Grasco (private stallion Oldenburg; Westphalia; advanced successes), and Granius (Federal Showjumping Championship finalist; Germany; now USA), as well as half sister of the advanced showjumper Night Fire (by Night and Day).
Wiadora gave birth to the two intermediate class showjumpers Le Grannus (by Le Vainqueur) and Langran (by Lancer II). Her daughter Waldamsel is in turn, the dam of the state premium candidate and placed Federal Championship contestant White Light (by Cordalmé Z). The dam sire Grannus, was himself a champion showjumper, and then sire. The successful showjumper and sire Argentinus, who appears in the third generation is another breeding star,
The dam line, which has Westphalian origins, is based on the mare Alize (by Andres-Frohsinn-Fluggast) This line produced the stallions Acido (private stallion Rhineland), Daniel and Darius (both private stallions Westphalia), Gunter and Pageno (both Warendorf state stallions) and the successful international showjumper Pedro (by Pilot), ridden by Wolfgang Brinkmann.
Sandro Boy completed his stallion performance test in Münster-Handorf in 1996, 13th out of 60 candidates, but with the best jumping score – 144.98, with a 10 for free jumping.
The ride on Sandro Boy was taken over by Marcus Ehning, in 2003, and Sandro Boy was soon competing at the highest level. The pair won the 2003 Frankfurt Grand Prix and then in 2004, the Düsseldorf, Gera and London Grand Prix, were runners up in the Dortmund Grand Prix and vice-champions of the German Championship in Balve. In 2005, Sandro Boy won the Grand Prix at Düsseldorf, London-Olympia and Gera. In 2006, they won the Zurich Grand Prix before taking out the World Cup Final in Kuala Lumpur – going through the event without ever looking like touching a rail. By mid-2006, he had won euro300,000 in prizemoney.
According to Marcus Ehning (as quoted in Breeding News, August 2006) “When I took him over he over-jumped the obstacles with too much effort and was therefore wrongly estimated as unconventional. Then I took him slowly up to higher demands. He has enormous jumping potential, and is very sensitive and careful. I had to find out how to ride him in competition because of his sensitivity.”
In 2004, Sandro Boy covered 170 mares, and in 2005, 150. He is already the sire of three licensed stallions: Saccor (x Corrado) who was the premium stallion at Münster-Handorf and is now jumping S level; Sandro Man de L (out of a Landgraf mare) and Sandro Boy Junior (out of a mare by Montparnese). Two of his daughters, Simone and Sabrina, qualified for the Bundeschampionate.
Breeding record: Sandro Boy’s first few batches of foals already resulted in four approved sons. Saccor is in the services of the Brandenburg state stud in Neustadt/Dosse and Sandro Man de L is meanwhile stationed at a private stud in BadenWürttemberg, whereas Sandro Boy Junior and Sturm were approved in 2004. His oldest progeny are successful in showjumper tests at the elementary and intermediate levels.
