Keros offers a very large choice of top stallions from the most important European studbooks. Because of our geographic location, we have access to fresh, cooled semen from a wide range of stallions in Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany 7 out of 7 days from March to September. Our team of experienced veterinarians can assist you in the management of problem mares, insemination with frozen semen, small dosis insemination and deep intra-uterine insemination.

Keros is a European licensed Insemination and Embryo Transfer Center. (European Licence NW90/22 BN98/09). All procedures are performed by trained veterinarians.

Keros provides a complete embryo transfer service, including management and insemination of the donor mare, embryo collection, embryo transplantation and freezing of embryos. In 2008, over 500 embryos were transferred at Keros (80+ percent pregnant) making it one of the leading ET center in Europe. Clients have the choice between having their donor mare bred at Keros or at a studfarm of their choice (embryo collection by appointment at our center). In addition, breeding and embryo collection can be performed by a veterinarian near your stables or at the studfarm, and the embryo transported to our center for transplantation. In the past year, over 250 cooled, transported embryos were shipped to Keros with the same high pregnancy rates as for fresh embryos collected and transferred at Keros.

When a mare is not able to raise her own foal it may be very challenging to find a suitable nursing mare. Keros offers a full service of adoption and providing nurse mares. Selected broodmares are prepared for adoption. Lactation is induced hormonally removing the need to find a mare that has recently lost her foal. These mares make excellent nurse mares without the dissadvantages that traditional nurse mares often present (aggresive behavior to foal, ownership, etc). Several equine veterinary clinics in Belgium and abroad have adopted this technique. In Belgium, nurse mares prepared by Keros are utilized at Paardenkliniek De Bosdreef, Paardenkliniek De Morette, and others.

Adoption of Orphan Foals: Our Mares, Why Adoption, How, Costs, ...

For those mare owners looking for help, we offer a service whereby pregnant mares due to foal are watched by experienced staff. Our veterinary staff is on-site 24 hours a day every day of the week to attend and, if necessary, assist in the foaling process. In rare cases of problems during or after birth, an experienced veterinarian is always present on the farm for immediate veterinary assistance. For increased safety, all mares are equipped with a foal alert system that will alert our staff and at least one veterinarians immediately by calling several mobile phones at once.
